I have been using many strategies to read Purple Hibiscus. My first strategy is to annotate. Annotating helps me write my thoughts down about the book. It also reminds me to ask questions in class on something I am confused about. Another strategy I use is to read for a longer amount of time instead of a shorter amount of time. This helps me remember what is going on in the book and helps me really to immerse myself in the story.
While I do have strategies for reading, I also do struggle with reading Purple Hibiscus. I sometimes get confused when the characters do not just say the information. For example, when Mama has a miscarriage she doesn't say she has one. We, as readers, have to interpret that she did have one. The strategy I use for this is to reread the section or mark it and talk about it in class.
