Cruise with Harley and Mose
The two best friends, Harley and Mose, were looked out onto
the horizon admiring the beautiful blue ocean water from their balcony on the
ship. They were excited, it was their first cruise. They left the balcony and
decided to go get soft serve ice cream because it was hot outside. As they were
eating their soft serve ice cream they heard little kids screaming saying they
could see dolphins from the ship. Harley and Mose proceeded to check it out for
themselves and saw the dolphins swimming into the horizon. Harley and Mose
decided to jump into the water to swim with the dolphins. They rode into the
horizon with only a peace back to their parents. They soon became one with the
animals, leaving their human life behind, the end.
Harrison Bergeron
Harrison Bergeron is probably the most oddest but interesting short stories I have ever read yet. As I was reading I was questioning how would this even work? The thing that kept me reading it was questioning what is this world, I want to know more about it. It is very dystopian yet I can't picture this happening in real life unlike other dystopian novels I've read. I also could not stop thinking about how everyone had to be equal which I thought was extremely unfair to everyone.
Everyone should be able to live their life without restraints. The fact that "smart" people had to have ear pieces and glasses that made their vision blurry. Also hazel was envious of her husband because he had restraints. The fact that she is jealous is just mess up. This just shows that no matter how much you try to make everyone equal, there is just no win to this type of situation.

Dear 13 year old
Dear 13 year old, stop trying to be something you're not, it's pointless. Believe me, you will find people who like you for you. Wear what you want to wear. Do something you love whether it's a sport or an art or reading even if people don't understand how you could miss a big party to go play in a soccer game. Middle School isn't everything and the transition into high school might seem scary but honestly it's nothing. Don't cancel plans with your friends for your "boyfriend or girlfriend" because they are way better then your one week relationship.
Spend time with your family. Care about your grades but don't be obsessed if you make one bad grade, it will be ok. Stay home for one night on the weekends, trust me, you will be well rested for school this way. Being nice to everyone doesn't mean you have to be friends with them just being nice is a great thing. It's better to have a couple true friends then have a bunch of fake friends.
The White Rose 9/19
As I continue to read The White Rose it gets more intense page by page. The author always has suspense by leaving out some details for the reader to find out later. I also thought that the way the author is starting to tie everything together is cool because some things didn't make sense at first but now they do. Something that surprised me was when I found out that the black key was a society and how the author made it a secret that is leading to a rebellion was clever. Another thing that surprised me was when the author decided to save a character who I thought wasn't that worthy to be apart of this rebellion but is actually very necessary.
I wonder why the author only has the point of view from Violet, the main character. It would be cool to see the story from other point of views. I also wonder why the author hasn't mentioned the main character's family that much in the second book. I think something bad has happened to them or something is about to happen to them. I also think something might happen to Violet's sister because the author hasn't talked about her much.

Hurricane Katrina
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/09/books/review/09oshi.html?rref=collection%2Ftimestopic%2FHurricane%20Katrina&action=click&contentCollection=timestopics®ion=stream&module=stream_unit&version=search&contentPlacement=8&pgtype=collection
Hurricane Katrina was a devastating tragedy that occurred on August 29, 2005. This natural disaster is something that no one will ever forget. Some people fled New Orleans to find refuge with family but some people stayed either because they thought Katrina was a joke or they didn't have enough money to leave. No one really knew how to react to this situation, not even the government or police. Everyone that could've helped fled and the remainder of the people were stuck with no help. The storm went over the levees leaving 80% of New Orleans under water.
The devastation of New Orleans was unbearable. People stole from houses, grocery stores, and name brand stores like nike. It was like there was no law. The government basically abandoned the remaining survivors so the city was in chaos. There was some heroic acts in the tragic time, for example, the "cajun navy", just volunteered with boats and saved up to 4,000 lives. New Orleans is still recovering till this day.

The White Rose Reading Response 9/12
The White Rose is the second book in The Jewel series. Violet, Ash, and Raven have escaped to the farm and are now working on a revolution to destroy the jewel. The author always keeps on our toes by writing with suspense. She does this by being descriptive on how the characters are running away from something or waiting. By doing this, the author always has us reading till the next page.
Since The White Rose is a dystopian novel, there is lots of world building included in the dialogue. This helps us as readers picture the vivid description in our heads. The author describes the jewel as a fancy place where the richest people live unlike the marsh where the poorest people are from who have barely anything. The author is slowly creating a map in our heads of showing us where the characters are and where they are going. It also helps us remember who lives in those places and where danger lurks.

Getting ready for Twenty Pilots with Hudson
"Hey Hudson turn this song up it's bomb!' I say as she turns up Lane Boy by Twenty One Pilots. "Hurry up we have to get ready for the Twenty One Pilots concert!" says Hudson while I start putting on my makeup. "I'm so excited but stressed but excited!" I say as I dance around the room. "If Tyler doesn't play forest I'm peacing out." "LOL me!"- I respond back to Hudson. "Should I wear overalls or that leather skirt?' I say looking in the mirror with a confused face. "Wear whatever you want." Hudson says causing me more stress. "If I wear the overalls I will look like a farmer so I'm going to go with the leather skirt." "Girls come on we have to go!" Mrs. Heather says making us realizing that we are actually seeing to Twenty One Pilots causing us to get excited. "Ok we are coming" we say in sync as we walk out the door ready to see one of our favorite bands live for the first time.
The White Rose Response
The White Rose is the second book of The Jewel series. It is very intense and always has you on your feet. Violet just escaped the jewel which is very stressful. This book just makes me stressed in general but in a good way. Something that surprised me was that Ash, Violet's lover, was alive. I can't believe that he survived the hits from the regiments.
I wonder why the author made Violet save her best friend because her best friend is very messed up now from all of the physcological damage from her Head of House Lady. She is just holding everyone back while everyone is trying to escape. As I was reading I saw that the author made the choice of making it even harder to get to the farm for suspense. The author did it so the book would be longer which I'm not complaining.
